Vancouver, B.C. - October 20, 2015 - Westhaven Ventures Inc. (TSX-V:WHN) is pleased to announce drilling has begun on its 18,412 hectare Shovelnose gold property, located within the prospective Spences Bridge Gold Belt (SBGB), approximately 30 km south of Merritt, British Columbia.
The drill program will consist of approximately 1,500 metres of diamond drilling with the goal to further expand and outline the extent of the newly recognized epithermal gold system present on the property. Drilling to date has expanded a highly anomalous silicified zone or cap where a sub horizontal near surface zone grading 0.54 g/t Au and 4.77 g/t Ag over 50.4 metres, which includes 13.7 metres grading 0.91 g/t Au and6.65 g/t Ag, was intersected.
Drill hole SN15-01, which is currently in progress, has intersected approximately 42.5 metres (25.6-68.1m) of highly silicified tuff with vuggy, locally variably pyritic, quartz veining. From 68.1 metres to 148 metres, there has been a succession of heterolithic tuffs and rhyolite flows and no silicification has been observed.
Ground Geophysics
Approximately 14 line kilometres of combined geophysical surveys including Induced Polarization (IP), ground magnetics, and VLF-EM were recently completed on the Line 6, MIK and Tower zones along with the intervening ground where drilling has traced a broad zone of near surface, lower grade gold-silver mineralization. The survey outlined several targets which will be drill tested, including high chargeability anomalies which can be indicative of sulphides associated with auriferous quartz veins and high resistivity anomalies which may be due to quartz veining and associated gold-bearing silicification.
Shovelnose Gold Property Overview
To date, 24 drill holes (2 were abandoned in overburden) have been diamond drilled for a cumulative total of 3,089 metres, in three separate target areas. Gold and silver mineralization, associated with quartz veining and silicification, has been encountered in all 24 holes. In addition, there is evidence of a significant mineralized alteration system within the property where float samples grading 119 g/t Au (Gold) and 273 g/t Ag (Silver), veins in trenching grading 66 g/t Au and wide low grade alteration zones typical of epithermal gold deposits have been discovered.
