Our Approach
Westhaven’s approach to responsible exploration and mine development is rooted in acting with integrity, listening with intention, and engaging with openness within our organization and across all external relationships. We are dedicated to building strong trust-based partnerships grounded in accountability to create lasting economic benefits and opportunities in British Columbia.
Our projects are situated in the Nlaka’pamux Nation. Westhaven is currently collaborating with the Nlaka’pamux Nation to develop a land acknowledgment statement.
We believe being a good neighbour starts with listening and building long-term relationships based on trust, transparency and accountability.
At Westhaven, we work closely with Indigenous and local communities to foster collaborative partnerships through early and ongoing engagement and communication throughout the life of our projects.
Westhaven actively engages with the Nlaka’pamux Nation, supporting economic participation, training, procurement, and community capacity-building to help create meaningful, lasting benefits.

At Westhaven, we are committed to responsible environmental practices that guide every stage of our exploration activities. We prioritize the protection of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems through thoughtful planning, responsible land use, and the early integration of progressive reclamation practices.
Since 2021, Westhaven has conducted extensive environmental studies at our Shovelnose project in collaboration with qualified environmental consultants, including K’en T’em Environmental, owned by Citxw Nlaka’pamux Assembly, to better understand and safeguard local water resources, wildlife, and sensitive habitats. This work includes water quality and flow monitoring, fish and wetland studies, vegetation and habitat assessments, and wildlife surveys, supported by ongoing programs such as dustfall monitoring, wildlife cameras, and rare plant and bird nest surveys. K’en T’em plays a key role in monitoring and reporting, helping ensure our project decisions are informed and aligned with responsible project development.
Since 2024, Westhaven has been conducting surface water quality monitoring at our Skoonka project in collaboration with AEW LP, which is owned by Nlaka’pamux Nation Tribal Council.
To support responsible project planning, Westhaven takes a proactive, site-specific approach by conducting archaeological assessments prior to any ground-disturbing activities in accordance with its protocols.
We believe responsible exploration and development contribute meaningfully to a strong and resilient economy. Through our projects in southern British Columbia, Westhaven supports regional growth by investing locally, partnering with local and Indigenous businesses, and helping create skilled, long-term employment opportunities. Our disciplined, long-term approach is focused on delivering generational economic opportunities for local and Indigenous communities and for the province of British Columbia.
