Geology

Skoonka is underlain mainly by volcanic and intrusive rocks of the Spences Bridge Group (Pimainus and Spius Formations) deposited onto older Mount Lytton Complex rocks (layered units intruded and metamorphosed by at least one granitic intrusion. The uppermost Spius flows are exposed in a 6km long down-dropped normal-fault block that lies in the northwest part of the Skoonka Creek project area. The property displays all the key characteristics of a prospective low-sulphidation epithermal system.

  • Exploration to date has identified six gold zones: JJ(including JJ West), Discovery, Deadwood, Backburn, Ember, and Zebra
    Skoonka
  • Two styles of gold mineralization and alteration occur: 1) multi-stage massive veins with associated breccia zones and intense proximal silica to distal argillic alteration and 2) narrow stockwork veinlets with disseminated pyrite and moderate pervasive silica and minor clay alteration
  • JJ showing is composed of two veins, Jan and Jodi, exposed in the main trench and showing rare visible gold – drilling in 2022 suggests that mineralization associated with the JJ showing extends for ~1.6km to the JJ West area
  • Favourable host rocks and structural controls along the 3,000m Deadwood-Backburn Trend
  • Mineralogical and textural evidence suggesting the upper portion of a shallowly eroded epithermal system, with strong potential for higher grades at depth
  • Multi-element pathfinder halos and clay and silica alteration identify areas of interest for future exploration
  • Mineralized float boulders and anomalous stream sediment and soil values (unsourced)
